Informational Interviews
What is an informational interview? Why is it a great information-gathering activity? How do you go about getting one?
Informational interviews can help you:
- gather information to focus your job search
- identify transferable skills
- make career decisions
- set your career direction
You will work on your own interview questions and telephone script. Learn all the information and tools you need to conduct successful informational interviews.
Strategies for Finding Work
Are you getting the results you want from your job search? If not, this workshop is for you!
We will discuss:
- why you should know what you want to do
- which job search techniques will help you land that next job
You’ll also learn:
- what an active versus a passive job search is
- how employers prefer to hire
- how to network
- how to arrange an informational interview
- what telephone strategies to use
- how to track the jobs you have applied for
Trades Workshop
Learn from a Journeyman Instructor who currently works up north:
- how to target your resume
- networking strategies for a job in the oil and gas industry
This workshop includes training in:
- Construction Safety Training System (CSTS)
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
- First Aid
- H2S Alive – so you’re aware of the properties and dangers of hydrogen sulfide gas
NEW: Forest Operator Training
Program Dates: October 7, 2019 – March 13, 2020
The Forest Operator-Faller Training program is tuition-free and designed to provide eligible participants with hands-on experience and vocational training in the forest industry. The program will include employability and occupational skills training, including
- forest sector training
- professional development
- initial 30-day new faller training
- on-the-job work experience
To apply for this tuition-free program, you must:
- meet the definition of an Employment Insurance (EI) client
- be eligible for WorkBC Case Management and be referred by a WorkBC Employment Coach
- have a valid driver’s licence
This full-time 21-week program runs at Okanagan College in Penticton.

18-week program begins October 21, 2019
Taylor Pro Training Ltd., in partnership with WorkBC, is offering a Class 1 Professional Driver Training Program.
Program includes:
- essential skills
- airbrakes theory
- truck theory
- active truck observation
- behind-the-wheel training
- certification courses
- work experience
- follow-up and job search
You will receive work experience and job placement assistance. Course prerequisites: 19 years of age with Class 5 licence.

Link to FlyerNEW: Professional Log Truck Driver
Program Dates:
Salmon Arm: October 21, 2019 – May 1, 2020
Oliver: November 4, 2019 – May 15, 2020
The Professional Log Truck Driver program is a competency-based program designed to improve the safety performance and professionalism of log truck drivers, and to train Class 1 drivers to haul logs and drive on resource roads.
Students take part in 10 weeks of theory and classroom training, followed by six weeks of hands-on, practical log truck driver training. The BC Forest Safety Council will assess students before they begin the 10-week work experience.
To apply for this program, you must:
- meet the definition of an Employment Insurance (EI) client
- be eligible for WorkBC Case Management and be referred by a WorkBC Employment Coach
- have a valid driver’s licence
This full-time 21-week program runs at Okanagan College in Penticton.
